| Abstract: |
The chapter deals with the urban landscape from a global perspective, as a multidimensional and complex concept, interrelated with culture and ecology. It presents influential aspects of the urban landscape in the field of urban design, that constitute an interdisciplinary body of knowledge. The urban landscape is examined as a "structured image" that is subjectively provided with meaning and experienced by the individual and society, as well as an ecosystem that functions and evolves obeying fundamental natural laws, in order to become environmentally sustainable.
