Description:
Abstract:
The traditional Decision Support Systems (DSS) rely on the use of models. This chapter covers topics related to the types, use, and management of models. It presents various categories of models as well as the components of mathematical models. Methodologies for finding solutions—such as algorithmic and heuristic approaches—are discussed. Linear programming and simulation are introduced, and the application of models for conducting what-if analyses, sensitivity analyses, and goal seeking is explained. Finally, Model Base Management Systems (MBMS) are presented.
