Abstract: |
The book at hand is the first systematic critical presentation in the Greek language of the political philosophy of international relations and international law in the thought of some of the classical thinkers. The book is mainly focused on the theme of war and peace. In the first chapter, the reader is introduced to the fundamental distinction between war and peace and the basic principles of, first, the ‘political realism’ tradition, second, the ‘just war’ theory, and third, the tradition of ‘perpetual peace’ projects. The rest of the book critically presents and reconstructs the political thought of Thucydides, St. Augustine, Grotius, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Kant, and Mill on war, peace, the state, natural law, jus ad bellum and jus in bello among other things. The general approach of the book is historical and normative at the same time.
