Conservation laws

Description:
Abstract:
This chapter concerns the conserved quantities derived from Newton's second law of motion for a point particle. In particular, momentum, angular momentum and energy are quantities that are conserved under certain conditions. Whenever there are conserved quantities, they are integrals of the equations of motion, and replace some of these equations. In this sense, they help to integrate the complete problem, but even if this is not possible, they make it easier to understand and describe at least qualitatively the motion of the point particle.
