Abstract: |
Following the pace of globalisation, the number of transnational NGOs has quadrupled in just two decades (from around 10,000 in 2000 to almost 42,000 in 2020). In the world's poorest countries, where more than 3/5 of the world's population live, NGOs play a very important role. These NGOs often have budgets larger than several Third World countries and provide services (food, education, health care, etc.) to tens of millions of people. These actors are funded by both state aid and private philanthropy.
