Abstract: |
International development aid is given either in the form of grants or soft loans. But another crucial distinction is between project aid and programme aid. Humanitarian or emergency aid is part of development aid and its share has increased in recent decades. Other distinctions are between aid for balance of payments, aid for social infrastructure, aid for governance and technical assistance. However, all these distinctions and definitions have not remained stagnant over time but have evolved with the addition of new, more detailed classifications.
