Description:
Abstract:
The integrated consideration of a rangeland ecosystem includes, besides the qualitative assessment of the functioning of the ecosystem (link with the previous Unit), the quantification of the parameters that express its functioning. Thus, it is necessary to outline the methodologies, metrics and statistics used for the measurement of land cover, species composition, density, frequency, production and floristic diversity of rangeland plant communities. The quantitative assessment of the grassland functioning provides basic information to the administrator to efficiently design the spatial and temporal organization of grazing on the basis of balanced stocking rate / grazing capacity (link to the next Unit). In combination with the qualitative assessment, it defines directions for improvement to be taken into account in rangeland management.
