| Abstract: |
Solvable and nilpotent groups are studied. The concepts of normal series and composition series are introduced. The Schreier, Jordan, and Hölder Theorems are proven. The notions of the generalized commutator, the derived series, the solvable series, the upper central series, the lower central series, as well as the (finite) central series are introduced. Fundamental results concerning nilpotent groups are proven. Exercises are included.
