| Abstract: |
The (left) action of a group on a set is studied. The concept of a permutation representation of a group is introduced. The Orbit-Stabilizer Lemma and Burnside’s Lemma are proven. Furthermore, the (left) action of a group on another group is examined. Using this concept, the semidirect product of two groups is constructed. Applications of the developed concepts are presented. Exercises are included.
