The Integers and the Rational numbers
Authors: Varsos, Dimitrios
Description:
Abstract:
The sixth chapter is dedicated to the presentation of the ring of integers and the field of rational numbers. Starting with natural numbers, the integers are defined through a relation of equivalence. The rational numbers are again defined by a relation of equivalence in integers. A major structural difference is pointed out: each low-bounded subset of integers has a minimum element, which is not the case in rational numbers.
