Description:
Abstract:
The aim of this chapter is to highlight Sequence Stratigraphy as a "new tool" for the study of sedimentary basins and the subdivision of the sedimentary record into chronostratigraphic assemblages. Reference is made to the term 'sequence' and its definition in the context of stratigraphy. In particular, the basic hierarchy and architecture of the sequence is described and the variables affecting the available sedimentation space (accommodation space) are mentioned.
