Description:
Abstract:
Carbonate rocks contain more than 50% of the world's oil and gas reserves, they are important hosts of ore deposits and they constitute very important raw materials. The processes that take place during deposition, as well as the diagenesis occuring, determine the physical and chemical properties of these rocks, as well as the potential of the deposits and their technical characteristics. In this chapter, the conditions, and environments of sedimentation of carbonate rocks are discussed and the potential of microfacies analysis in identifying and interpretation of the environments is discussed.
