Description:
Abstract:
This chapter is an introduction to a recently-developed subject of modern sedimentology, volcaniclastic sediments. Volcaniclastic sediments, broadly defined as clastic deposits resulting from the transport, deposition and/or reworking and re-deposition of the products of volcanic activity, have long been a controversial subject in geosciences, due to the inherent complexity of the fragmentation, transport and deposition processes operating in volcanically impacted environments and the relatively recent development of the discipline as a specialized field. Some volcaniclastic rocks and sediments can also be classified in the 'igneous rock' system.
