Description:
Abstract:
The chapter analyzes and describes various continental sedimentation environments, including alluvial, fluvial, lacustrine, glacial, and aeolian-arid environments. It focuses on the morphological characteristics of alluvial fans and provides diagnostic criteria for identifying old alluvial fan deposits. It explores the development and evolution of rivers, types of channels, and their classification. Furthermore, it also covers the formation conditions of braided and meandering rivers and describes the deposits in their sub-environments. Besides these, the chapter discusses lake sedimentation environments, their physio-chemical properties, and the classification of lakes. It examines the distribution and characteristics of glacial and aeolian deposits, their interrelation to climate and geomorphology, and their sedimentary deposits. The geographical distribution of glacial sedimentation environments over geological time and their connection to tectonics and isostasy are also addressed.
