Description:
Abstract:
The chapter presents the instructional techniques of questions with answers, and discussion or dialogue. The two techniques are usually combined with each other. The instructional technique of discussion or dialogue often use questions as a trigger and axis for the process. The questioning technique essentially follows the Socratic method in which, learners are led to definitions, inductions, and conclusions through a series of targeted questions. In discussion, the teacher first organizes its context to meet the objectives of teaching. The teacher defines the main axes of the discussion and configure the appropriate questions, which will lead to the results they expect. In the classroom, the teacher creates groups of learners, who are asked to collaborate and prepare answers to support their positions. The teacher asks the questions successively and each group, through its representative, formulates its answers in the classroom and responds to any objections coming from other groups, provoking a discussion with wide participation, within the predetermined framework. The techniques of questions and discussion are developed with two examples, one on critical thinking and the other on creative thinking.
