This Chapter discusses the role cryptography plays in blockchain technology starting with the creation and use of a key pair (private and public) in a blockchain network. Following is the relationship that this key pair has with the creation of a network address for the two known blockchain networks (Bitcoin and Ethereum), as well as the use of a wallet application to store them.Additionally, this chapter discusses the key difference in how a wallet generates keys and analyzes the types of wallets encountered. Finally, the way to decide about the right type of wallet depends on the expected way of using it.
