Description:
Abstract:
The edition aims to help in the understanding of key issues of history, aesthetics and the way the photographic image works. In the above chapters, key issues from the aforementioned fields, related to the photographic image are presented, in order to understand the specificity of the medium and the factors that shaped it over time. Thus, an attempt is made to deconstruct the nature of the object of photography in order to demonstrate the way of organizing the different forms of appearance of the medium. Photography as a carrier of collective memory is examined through the analysis of historical photographs. Among them are photos related to social, political, and cultural issues that demonstrate the way the photographic image is impressed on the collective memory and on an individual’s personal memory as well. The physical object of the photograph, the material that makes it up and its individual structural elements are also examined as well as themportance of technique and its evolution in relation to the development of the medium. Topics of art history that discuss the relationship of photography with the other visual arts, cinema and music are analyzed. Based on the notion of aesthetics, photographs are approached both in terms of the way they are created and in terms of their origin and their reading. A special section of the publication deals with the aesthetics of the modern digital image and the way it has influenced life and art and continues to do so.. Visual communication is examined as the tool by which we understand and perceive the environment with an emphasis on formulating a method of perceiving the communication codes of photography. Summarizing, the multitude of possibilities and applications of photography as a tool to create a work of art is discussed along with the choice of decisions through which the artist proposes his personal perspective and the reception factors of the artistic result.
