Description:
Abstract:
This is a textbook that refers to the three main areas of choral art: α) The history of choral music: a brief account of the development of Western polyphonic music from the time of Ambrosian Melus to the present day and the evolution of the choir as a vocal ensemble is given. In addition, there is a presentation of the different types of choral ensembles according to their purposes of function. The first section includes important - representative composers and choir directors who contributed to the development of the choral art and a concise reference in the Plain Chant notation and interpretation. b) Theoretical Approach of choral conducting techniques and choral pedagogy: there is a detailed reference to the theory of choral conducting pattern, techniques, the historically informed interpretation of choral music, the musical preparation of the choral conductor and the fundamental principles of choral pedagogy and teaching. c) Choral Praxis: reference to the application of choral teaching with practical examples, choral rehearsal methodology, repertoire selection techniques, artistic planning suggestions, auditioning procedure, vocal warm-ups with examples, choral articulation/diction, etc. Finally, there is a short reference regarding choral music teaching to young children (6-9 years old), with a discussion of teaching methodology, practical examples and pedagogical approaches applicable to children of this age.
