Description:
Abstract:
Greece, like other countries in southern Europe, has transformed in recent years from a country of origin to a host country for immigrants. Since the 1990s, the country began receiving significant numbers of immigrants, initially from neighboring countries and countries of the former Soviet Union, where there was also a substantial Greek minority (Albania, Georgia, Ukraine), and more recently from much more distant regions due to recent geopolitical developments. A significant issue arising from the large migratory flows is the interaction of these people, who generally do not speak the Greek language, with public services (judicial and police authorities, healthcare, education, etc.). Translation and interpretation for public services, also known as community translation/interpretation, constitute the only solution to this problem.
