Description:
Abstract:
Modern definition of trauma is a harmful event which results from implication or liberation of certain types of energy on the human body or from obstruction of the use of energy or oxygen by the body. Application of energy (mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical or radiation) in a quantity that exceeds body endurance, causes tissue injuries. In this chapter, early and late complications of musculoskeletal injuries are analyzed. They are presented in relation to the injured anatomic structures (vessels, nerves, ligaments, tendons, joint) as well as in relation to the pathophysiologic mechanisms of development (compartment syndrome, infection, alterated fracture healing). Finally, clinical appearance, prevention and management of these complication are presented.
