Description:
Abstract:
The book Disability Studies and Inclusive Education outlines key approaches, perspectives, and issues on disability in the Greek context. It involves a paradigm shift, as disability takes a unique position, overlapping with humanities and social sciences in myriad ways. Disability Studies is an area of academic study that examines social, political, cultural, and economic factors that define disability. Disability Studies challenge the view of disability as a deficit or defect that can be cured or treated. Drawing on a range of interdisciplinary areas including sociology, history, cultural studies, education, and policy this book offers a new framework for thinking about disability in Greece. The book consists of four chapters. Each main chapter has a concise introduction, key concepts, as well as suggestions for wider reading. This book will introduce readers, undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, policymakers, and disabled people to the discipline of Disability Studies and Inclusive Education and enable them to engage critically with the field.
