Abstract:
This section presents the most important families of phytophagous mites (Tetranychidae, Eriophyidae, Tarsonemidae, Tydeidae, Tenuipalpidae) and predatory mites (Phytoseiidae), along with basic information on their morphology, biology, and behavior. Different methods for sampling mite populations (e.g., the Berlese apparatus) are analyzed, as well as techniques for preparing microscopic mite slides and permanent collections. The section includes a significant number of active hyperlinks, images, diagrams, and bibliographic references to facilitate a better understanding of the subject. A series of self-assessment questions for the student is also included.
