Abstract:
Written academic, scientific communication is the culmination of the practical work of researchers, scientists, and scholars. Following its publication, the scientific work becomes the subject of study, critique, and reference by subsequent publications. This system of measurable interactions of word expressions and references, scientific works and authors, the quantitative analysis of bibliography, it is the object of Bibliometrics. Bibliometric methods, using quantitative indicators that refer to the text content and its references and citations, statistically compares and mathematically designs maps of bibliographic data. It is a Library service that addresses to a wide range of stakeholders including scientists and researchers, authors and readers, librarians and publishers, universities and research institutes, research funding agencies and policy makers. The Bibliographic Guide of Bibliometrics covers the relevant international scientific literature and web information from 1830 to the present day and it represents the first bibliographic evaluation of this subject in Greece. It includes: (a) the fundamental books and reference manuals of Bibliometrics, (b) subject specialized scientific journals, (c) the most important scientific articles that describe bibliometric methodologies and techniques, (d) the websites as well as (e) the scientific societies active in this field, which organize conferences and issue practical guidelines. This Guide is addressed to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students of the Departments of Archival, Library, Museology, Information Science, Methodology, History and Theory of Science, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, as well as to all the active or future scientific authors in all scientific fields, by providing them the theoretical and practical background of Bibliometrics.
