Description:
Abstract:
Equilibrium and differential distillation are analyzed. Fractional distillation is introduced as a combination of multiple equilibrium distillations, and its significance as the prototype of staged operations is stressed. McCabe-Thiele's method for the design of ideal stages is analyzed. The role of reflux is revealed and its optimum range is discussed. Kremser’s equation is introduced for the design of high-purity ends. The hydraulic characteristics and flooding limit of each tray are estimated and Murphy’s efficiency of real trays is calculated.
