Description:
Abstract:
Lumped models of transient mass and energy balances are developed. A pure-component evaporator is used as an example to exhibit different levels of complexity. Basic notions of automatic control and flowsheet diagrams are introduced. The characteristics of sensors, transmitters, control valves and controllers are discussed. The conventional feedback control rules (proportional, integral, differential) are introduced and exemplified by the dynamic performance of a well-stirred heating vessel.
