Description:
Abstract:
The ninth chapter presents proposals for psychosocial intervention to enhance positive social behavior and friendship. Given the social difficulties of children with intellectual disabilities and Down syndrome, creating personalized intervention programs in the field of social cognition using new technologies would obviously be helpful (Odom, Klingerman, & Jakowski, 2004). Therefore, positive performance has been recorded in virtual reality and simulation projects related to social interaction, emotion recognition and social understanding for people with intellectual disabilities (Kizony, Katz, & Weiss, 2003. Mitchell, Parsons, & Leonard, 2007). Although in the field of special education in Greece, there are still deficiencies in the application of new technologies, in the last decade there have been sporadic efforts to build special software for detecting social skills and interpersonal interaction (see also Alevriadou & Giaouri, 2011. Alevriadou & Giaouri, 2012. Alevriadou & Giaouri, 2018). These programs, especially those aimed at self-regulation or self-control of behavior, self-determination, enhancing satisfaction and learning motivation, are especially important for adolescents and young people with Down syndrome (McGuire & Chicoine, 2006), in order to lead to greater independence in adulthood (Elias & Butler, 2005).
