Abstract:
The book FOREST BOTANY is addressed to undergraduate students of the Departments of Forestry, Ecology and Environment of the Academic Institutions of Greece.
Forest Botany is an applied branch of botanical science which aims to study the woody plant species of terrestrial ecosystems. These plants, trees and shrubs, are presented in this book in a systematic way, following the recent systematic classification and updated nomenclature.
In the book's material is included:
1. An introductory chapter on the description and classification of forest vegetation in Greece.
2. The main part which is the second chapter dealing with the most important trees and shrubs genera and species that are indigenous in Greece. It includes a total of 63 genera.
3. An appendix with the basic terminology illustrated.
The species covered by the book are morphologically described and data are provided concerning their geographical distribution, biological and habitat requirements, as well as their conservation status.
