Abstract:
In this chapter we will discuss the concept and basic principles of museum audience research and evaluation. The history and evolution of these concepts and practices, the problems and difficulties that cultural organisations encounter in the application of evaluation methodologies, as well as the benefits of audience research for museum strategy development and communication will be presented in detail. Emphasis will also be placed on evaluation methodologies, as well as examples from research projects conducted in Greece during the last few years.
