Abstract: |
In the theoretical part of the chapter, key online resources for information retrieval are presented, such as OMIM, GeneTests, and UniProt. The structure and function of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC) are explained, along with the GenBank and RefSeq databases. Particular emphasis is given to the presentation of the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) Genome Browser. The structure of FASTA files for the storage and processing of sequences is also explained. In the practical exercises, information searches related to the TAS2R38 gene are performed using the websites and databases presented in the theoretical part. The retrieval of the TAS2R38 gene and protein sequences is explained, as well as the retrieval of orthologous gene sequences in other species.
