Abstract: |
The main aim of the chapter is to develop the reader's ability to recognise manifestations of 'adaptability'. The chapter presents the different versions of resilience in the phases of the disaster management cycle. It also refers to the actors who potentially possess this capacity (individuals, households, communities, socio-ecological systems, etc.). Great importance is attached to the factors that influence or enhance resilience (such as resilience, flexibility, flexibility, redundancy, feedback, efficiency, innovation, creativity, creativity, networking, self-organisation, learning capacity, experience-knowledge-memory, inter-activity at different scales of space and time). At the end of the chapter, efforts to turn adaptability into a tool for risk management and promoting sustainability are presented. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of urban resilience (e.g. UN Habitat Urban Resilience Campaign).
