Description:
Abstract:
The first chapter provides a general introduction to the topic of non-destructive testing. Specifically, the chapter begins with a brief description of the process and characteristics of non-invasive inspections, followed by a presentation of certain practical parameters that must be taken into account when selecting the most appropriate testing technique in this field of investigation. In particular, the choice of the most suitable technique is based on the understanding and a priori knowledge of the material property and/or discontinuity under examination, as well as on the comprehension of the interaction between the experimental equipment and the target under investigation. Finally, the introductory chapter concludes with the presentation of a series of factors that significantly affect the sensitivity and reliability of non-destructive techniques.
