Reviewer: Chouliaras, Asterios
Subject: LAW AND SOCIAL SCIENCES > POLITICAL SCIENCES
Description:
Abstract:
This chapter starts by presenting the various types of war, followed by the thorny subject of ‘why war’, namely the reasons for resorting to armed conflict, including the question of human aggressiveness. Then the normative dimension of war is examined historically: just war doctrine, war as part of sovereignty as a right of states, war (and all forms of use or threat of armed force) as illegitimate and illegal (UN Charter) save as a defensive war against stark aggression.
