Abstract:
This chapter examines two inter-related themes: foreign policy and diplomacy. As regards foreign policy it is first of all defined and then the main contributions and views are presented in what is known as foreign policy analysis, concluding with today’s role of national identity in foreign policy decision-making. As regards diplomacy it is defined and its history is presented. Then the main functions of diplomacy are set out (information, representation, negotiations, etc.) as well as the various challenges regarding diplomacy and how they were overcome.
