Abstract:
This chapter discusses the question of intervention and non-intervention as normative concepts and concludes by the possible excretions to the vital norm of non-intervention. The controversial and delicate matter of humanitarian intervention is examined in detail, starting from its first appearance in the early 19th century, in the case of the Greek War of Independence and other 19th century cases are also referred to. The chapter concludes with the heated present-day post-bipolar world debate regarding humanitarian intervention, including the various criteria for humanitarian intervention presented by its supporters.
