Abstract: |
The written work contains basic principles of physiology/pathophysiology relating to the underlying pathology of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a description of the specific characteristics of the disease or medical condition that leads to the body's inability to sustain its vital functions, as well as the methods used by physicians, in line with the latest scientific data, to reverse this progressive destructive disorder. It also describes the most important and frequent problems that physicians are called upon to deal with in the ICU, so that the book is not just another textbook covering almost all pathological and/or surgical disorders that could lead to patient collapse and admission to the ICU. This is because, from experience, such textbooks are mainly aimed at doctors and not at undergraduate students, with the result that the volume and, possibly, the difficulty of understanding and assimilating the vast amount of information can be tiring and perhaps even discourage students.
