Abstract: |
In recent years, there has been increased interest in qualitative research in international and Greek literature, with new approaches and research strategies becoming widely disseminated. The book covers the basic principles and methods of qualitative research and their applications in psychology and education. The aim of the book is to introduce students to qualitative approaches, methods, and analysis techniques. The introductory chapter includes a brief historical overview of qualitative research in psychology and education, and refers to the theoretical framework, basic epistemological positions, and methodological issues such as the experience and reliability of qualitative research. The second chapter deals with the design of qualitative research, including the characteristics of research questions, sampling, methods of producing research material, and ethical issues in the qualitative research process. The third, fourth, and fifth chapters present various methods of qualitative data collection: individual qualitative interviews, group interviews / focus groups, and participatory observation and ethnography. The sixth chapter deals with qualitative analysis processes and methods, and the seventh with different approaches to qualitative analysis. The eighth chapter focuses on how to present qualitative research, and the ninth chapter includes a relevant bibliography, suggested sources for further study, hyperlinks to relevant articles published on the Internet, and a glossary of terms and concepts. The chapters include 'boxes' with examples, tables, hyperlinks, interactive exercises, images, and other new functional features. At the end of each chapter there are: 1. key terms and concepts, 2. topics for reflection and discussion, 3. exercises, and 4. suggested sources for further study.
