Abstract: |
In the present textbook, the author seeks to contribute to the field of architectural history and theory with a new reading, examining a crucial question about current social and political conditions: What is the relationship between architecture and technology in the era of the maturation of modern capitalism, in the light not only of technical means and materials, but especially of the expressive tools and methods of the "discourse of technique" on the built space? According to the author, technology, in addition to being a link between architecture and the production process, becomes a carrier of architectural positions and concepts. To this end, the author, through an interdisciplinary view, sweeps through the fields of art history and philosophy adjacent to architecture and traverses with an invisible thread the successive developments and mutations in the history of technology, as follows: selects and classifies, on the basis of their date of birth, thirteen architects whose work revolves around the aesthetics of Modernism and is arguably the most representative example of the relationship between architecture and various manifestations of technology in the 20th century.
