Abstract: |
In the e-book “Topics in Parametric Statistical Inference: estimation and confidence intervals” emphasis is placed on the rigorous mathematical foundation of two basic branches of statistical inference, Estimation and Confidence Intervals, while also providing an intuitive interpretation of the various concepts and results. We believe that through such a mathematical foundation, one can recognize and appreciate that the main role of statistics in society is to provide mathematically accurate answers to complex problems of human activity, and not simply to manage data sets descriptively. Furthermore, although there are several works on statistical inference in Greek and foreign (mainly English) literature, some of which are listed in the bibliography of Chapter 2, this book aims to be useful to students in their first encounter with (Theoretical-Mathematical) Statistics; to serve this purpose, several solved examples are included.
