Abstract:
This book focuses on the assessment of the impact of maritime activities on the environment. Emphasis is given on policy and management issues for the protection of the environment by shipping activities.The book contains eight chapters. Generally, in each chapter, an overview of each pollutant is given, including its sources, fate and environmental effects. Then the policy framework of IMO and the EE is discussed. Finally, existing and new technologies for the reduction of pollution are described.At the end of each chapter, comprehension questions are included. References are given in order to help the students to deepen their knowledge and understanding on the subject.The aim of the book is to give the student a comprehensive knowledge of the impacts of shipping on the environment and on the relative legislation, technology and operational measures
