Description:
Abstract:
Learning disabilities (LD) as a scientific field have a brief history, marked by significant stages of inquiry, turbulence, and reflection, seeking their identity, and defining the nature of these specific difficulties within the broader framework of special education. The topics that drew particular interest were the various approaches that prevailed over time, shaping the corresponding definitions, and influencing the overall development of the field. In its early phase, the dominant approach was the medical model, which significantly impacted the trajectory of LD and remains evident today, particularly in discussions regarding the causes of learning disabilities. However, it was the psychoeducational approach that became predominant in the more mature phase and continues to guide the field's development, emphasizing the phonological basis of LD.
