Description:
Abstract:
This chapter refers to the defects developed and appeared on round wood produced after felling and processing of softwood and hardwood trees. Based on these defects, a quality classification of stem wood is given. The allowed intensity of defects is described for each quality class. In addition, the Greek standards applied for electricity poles, telecommunication poles and railway sleepers, are presented describing the allowed and the forbidden defects. A distinguish of these products to various quality categories, based on the defects appeared on wood surfaces and on their dimensions (length and diameter for poles, length, width and height for railway sleepers), is presented.
