Description:
Abstract:
The purpose of this book is to help the reader understand what spatial analysis is and how some of its methods can be applied to real-world problems with a spatial dimension. As a textbook, it is intended for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as doctoral candidates and researchers interested in this subject. The book deals with issues of spatial analysis that mainly concern spatial statistics and Geographic Information Systems. Because much of it is based on research from the last 15 years, it provides the reader with good practices in applied spatial analysis of socioeconomic data such as family income, education, human poverty, and demographic data such as internal migration and population aging. Finally, the book includes a chapter teaching basic statistical programming using the R language, which is currently one of the most popular open source software languages for statistical and spatial analysis.
