Description:
Abstract:
This chapter discusses the rationale behind channel coding and forward error correction to identify and even correct at the receiver end errors which may have taken place during the transmission. Block and convolutional codes are discussed with the former separating the data into blocks and the latter employing the entire stream (usually at the bit level). Interleaving and de-interleaving techniques confront noise bursts.
