Abstract: |
The chapter discusses the audio signal and identifies audio bandwidth requirements. Its focus is on audio encoding and compression techniques. Such techniques remove redundant information as well as information the loss of which is not perceived by the human according to the psychoacoustic model and the characteristics of the human hearing system. Frequency and temporal masking are discussed. Examples and hearing perception – based experimentation is included.
