The basic theory of cyclic groups (finite or infinite) is analyzed, with classification up to isomorphism. The Hasse diagram of the subgroups of a cyclic group is determined. Characterizations of cyclic groups (including in relation to various constructions) are given, and non-trivial applications are examined, for example in Number Theory.
