Authors: Beligiannis, Apostolos
Reviewer: Marmaridis, Nikolaos Theodosios
Description:
Abstract:
The concept of the order of an element of a group and the order of a group is introduced. Basic properties regarding the order of an element or a group are proved, and examples are given. The elementary theory of cyclic groups is developed. The concept of the coset (side class) of a group with respect to a subgroup is analyzed, Lagrange’s Theorem is proved, and examples are provided. Various applications of Lagrange’s Theorem are presented, for example in Number Theory.
