Description:
Abstract:
Horizontal geothermal heat exchangers because of their limited surface feature, apply to installations with enough surrounding area, regardless of the composition of the subsoil. For dimensioning at given heating and/or cooling loads, there are several methods, which are presented together with the restrictions governing their application. The distribution of winter and summer air conditioning loads that the geothermal installation should cover is a key element of the design and sizing provisions should cover the maximum loads throughout the year. Alternative types of horizontal geothermal exchangers are presented which comprise simple tubes provisions to multiple tube devices arranged either vertically in a narrow trench, or spread out into a broader trench. Also, information concerning the construction of horizontal systems and filling and venting procedures is provided.
