Description:
Abstract:
This chapter introduces the methodology of spatial multi-criteria analysis (SMCA) and its application within a GIS using a weighted overlay of thematic layers. It starts with an introduction to multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), presenting the general steps to implement such a model and analyzing the main elements (general objective, sub-objectives, criteria descriptions, constraints, weighting factors, alternative options, sensitivity analysis). The chapter then deals with spatial multi-criteria analysis and its implementation through cartographic overlay techniques in a GIS. The chapter concludes with an application example of weighted spatial multi-criteria analysis using GIS software.
