Description:
Abstract:
This chapter deals exclusively with the colouring of surfaces to make them more realistic. This coloring occurs in two ways: a. by applying color to the points of the surfaces, where the color is given according to a color model, and b. by applying a texture image on the surface. The first half of the chapter is dedicated to the most common color models, while the second half deals with texture and how it is applied to surfaces. Additionally, various methods for rendering surface relief (e.g., rough surfaces) are studied. Apart from textual descriptions of the above techniques, pseudocode or relevant mathematical expressions are being used to explain main concepts. Moreover, output images or live demonstrations from the execution of algorithms (in the HTML5 version) are included as examples.
