Technological developments in the field of Virtual Reality (VR) have progressed at a rapid pace, resulting to a variety of methods and systems for projection, interaction and multimodal handling of virtual environments. In this chapter an attempt is made to comprehensively assess the technological background of Virtual Reality (VR) and platform-independent architectures. While implementations of VR applications may differ, the technical issues presented in the following paragraphs refer to common challenges and guidelines.
